Firewood can be stored in many ways but one of the safest and most convenient ways to store firewood is in a firewood storage rack. You can stack firewood directly on the ground but stacking it in a rack has several advantages.
A rack keeps the wood off the ground. This allows air to circulate under the stack which helps the wood dry and helps keep it dry. Firewood that is in contact with dirt can become an ugly mess. Big clumps of dirt or mud will stick to the wood and can make a mess when you bring it into the house. The dirt will also absorb and transfer moisture to the wood and encourage the wood to rot and mold.
Stacking firewood in a rack help you to get a sturdy stack that is less likely to fall over. A good solid base makes a good foundation to start stacking your wood on. The upright supports on the ends help to stabilize the stack and make it much less likely for it to fall over.
